Mergers and Acquisitions of 2023 worth noting

 Japan Industrial Partner's acquisition of Toshiba Corporation 

Toshiba Corporation was facing losses. So, at that time Japan Industrial Partner (JIP) led consortium gave buyout offer of $14 bn which Toshiba's shareholders accepted. After this deal, Toshiba Corporation became a private company.


AirAsia India and Air India Express merger

AirAsia India was started as a joint venture between Tata group and AirAsia but AirAsia slowly and steadily sold the shares of AirAsia India to Tata and then, Tata rebranded the airlines to AIX Connect which Tata made a subsidiary of Air India Limited, which was bought by Tata group in 2021. Air India Express is a subsidiary of Air India. Tata has started the merger process like transferring AIX Connect's aircraft to Air India Express.


IDFC First Bank and IDFC merger

Under this deal, Infrastructure Development Finance Company I.e. IDFC's shareholders will get 155 shares for every 100 shares hold in IDFC. Once the deal is completed IDFC will be gone and only IDFC First Bank will remain.


Broadcom's acquisitions of VMware

Broadcom manufactures and sells semiconductor and infrastructure software products. VMware is a cloud computing company. Broadcom has acquired VMware for $69 bn. After the deal Broadcom has started layoffs in VMware.


Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Activison Blizzard is the company that games like Call of Duty, Candy Crush, Warcraft, etc. Before the acquisition, Microsoft created Microsoft Gaming to unify all gaming related under one division and then acquired Activision Blizzard for $68.7 bn.
