6 Merger and Acquisition Deals of 2021 worth noting


Warner Media and Discovery merger

Deal was announced in Feb, 2021 where Discovery's CEO met AT&T's, parent company of Warner Media CEO. As of they have received some approvals including IRS. The merger would be one of greatest in the history of entertainment business as well as business.  

Sony Pictures Network India and Zee Entertainment merger

Both companies are yet to be merged. Merger is announced, approval is yet to be received. After merger it would be India's 2nd largest entertainment and largest media; and one of largest in world.

Microsoft's acquisition of Nuance Communications

The acquisition is in final phase i.e. restructure after which Microsoft will be become parent company Nuance Communication and many same business would become one like Teams App workflows combined with Nuance DAX Solutions. Its all-cash deal.

Tata's acquisition of Air India

Air India which was founded as Tata Airlines; was bought by Tata through a subsidiary through bankruptcy filing. This acquisition brought 3rd airline to Tata Group with other two being AirAsia India and Vistara. Air India was largest loss making company of Indian Government and deal became one of the largest in Airline industry and Indian history.  

Adani Green Energy's acquisition of SB Energy India

After the deal SB Energy India became a subsidiary of Adani Green Energy. Latter company, the world's largest solar power developer increased its portfolio by 5.4GW to 19.8GW.

Ltd. for about ₹1,700 crore (~US$400 mn) , valuing Ace at US$425–450 mn . Multiple reports call it one of the largest foreign investments in India’s insurance broking sector . Blackstone Inc. AkzoNobel to merge with Axalta Coating Systems

AkzoNobel to merge with Axalta Coating Systems — a $25 billion global coatings giant in the making Akzo Nobel N.V. (AkzoNobel) and Axalta Coating Systems Ltd. (Axalta) have signed a definitive agreement to combine in an all-stock merger of equals , creating one of the world’s largest paints and coatings companies. The transaction values the combined group at an enterprise value of about USD 25 billion , with pro-forma annual revenue around USD 17 billion based on 2024 numbers. Under the agreed terms: Ownership: AkzoNobel shareholders will own 55% of the merged company; Axalta shareholders will hold 45% .
